Bank Statement, Employment Letter and Salary Certificate for Visas
Your bank statement, employment letter and salary certificate show the embassy that you can fund the trip and that you have ties to your home country. The most common problem is not a low balance but documents that do not agree with one another.
This guide separates what official sources say from what we usually prepare at Almorad, a visa office in Riyadh. What we describe from our own work is practice, not an official rule, so always rely on the checklist of the embassy you apply to.
Is your file ready to submit?
Most refusals come from one small detail in the file. Send us your destination and travel dates and we will review your documents before you apply.

The EU Visa Code requires applicants to show sufficient means of subsistence for the stay and the return, assessed according to the length and purpose of the stay and average prices in the destination country. The official EU page sets no fixed amount and only asks for evidence of financial means during the stay.
For the United States, the State Department says applicants may be asked to show they can pay for the trip, and may provide bank or other statements of income or savings. Evidence of your employment or family ties may also help show that you intend to return home.
Some consulates list an employer letter stating salary and continued employment after leave, as in one EU information sheet for applicants, but detailed requirements differ between countries.
What We Prepare at Almorad for Schengen
This is Almorad's practice for Schengen tourist files, not a fixed official requirement. A specific embassy may ask for more or less.
| Document | What we usually prepare at Almorad |
|---|---|
| Bank statement | In English, 4 months for Saudis and 6 months for residents, usually with a balance of SAR 15,000 to 20,000 per person |
| Employees | An English salary certificate addressed to the embassy and attested by the Chamber of Commerce |
| Business owners | An English commercial registration |
| Retirees | A GOSI certificate |
| Residents | A Muqeem report from Absher and an employment contract from Qiwa |
The full document list and other requirements are in our Schengen documents guide.
How to Prepare Each Document
Bank statement
Ask the bank for an English statement with its stamp, and make sure the period ends shortly before your appointment. Do not move a large sum into your account just before applying, because a balance that appears suddenly raises more questions than it answers.
Salary certificate and employment letter
Your name, job title, start date and salary should match your contract and ID. The salary stated must be consistent with the monthly deposits in your statement, and the leave dates in the letter should match your travel dates.
Large deposits
If your statement shows an unusual large deposit, keep proof of its source, such as a sale contract, a bonus notice or a documented transfer from a relative. Attach a short, honest explanation if you are asked for one.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much money should I have for a Schengen visa?
The official text does not set one amount; it is assessed by trip length and destination prices. At Almorad we usually see a balance of SAR 15,000 to 20,000 per person, which is a practical benchmark and not an official requirement.
Is an Arabic bank statement enough?
For Schengen files we prefer an English statement, and you should check the embassy's checklist. Some authorities ask for a certified translation when needed.
What if I do not have a job?
The document depends on your status. Business owners provide a commercial registration, retirees a GOSI certificate, and employees an employment letter and salary certificate.
Can I deposit money before applying to improve my statement?
We advise against it. A sudden deposit appears on the statement and needs explaining, and the statement is best when it reflects your real financial position.
Does a strong statement guarantee approval?
No. The embassy decides, and the statement is only one part of the file. For common reasons, see why Schengen visas get refused, and if you are refused, read what to do after a visa refusal.
