Best Time to Travel to Thailand: Seasons, Beaches and Festivals
Thailand can be visited all year, but the month you choose changes the experience: heat, rain, sea conditions and crowds. Because the western and eastern coasts follow different seasons, picking the right coast at the right time matters most.
This article summarises what the Tourism Authority of Thailand publishes and ties it to planning a trip from Saudi Arabia.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand describes the weather as six months of rain, three months of cool winter breezes and three months of summer heat, with average temperatures between 18 and 38 degrees Celsius. The country is affected by both the summer and winter monsoons because of its position between land and sea.
Month-by-month detail differs between the north, centre and south, so check local forecasts from the Thai Meteorological Department before you book.
Andaman Sea vs the Gulf of Thailand
Coastal destinations split into the Andaman Sea in the west, home to Phuket and Krabi, and the Gulf of Thailand in the east, home to Ko Tao and Surat Thani. According to TAT's year-round seas guide, January to April is a prime season on the Andaman Sea, and November to January also brings crystal-clear water. For the Gulf, TAT highlights June to September as a season for diving and island trips.
In practice the two coasts do not share the same best time, so confirm an island's season before you book it.
Hot Months and Rainy Months
In its April in Thailand article, TAT says April is the hottest month, with temperatures that can reach 42 degrees in the north and northeast, and that it is among the driest months for islands such as Phi Phi. In its June article it describes June as the rainy season, with mild weather, green scenery and competitive hotel rates, and focuses on inland activities such as waterfalls and rice terraces.
Festivals: Songkran and Loy Krathong
Songkran is a traditional April festival where people splash water on each other, and TAT lists Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Patong Beach in Phuket among the places to celebrate. In 2026 TAT promoted Songkran events at Lumpini Park from 11 to 15 April, an announced event that has now passed. We found no official published dates for Songkran 2027.
Loy Krathong falls on the full moon of the 12th lunar month, and in 2025 events clustered between 2 and 6 November according to TAT's page. We did not find an official 2026 date, so check the TAT website when planning.
How to Choose Your Travel Dates
- Beaches: choose the coast first, then the month.
- Comfort: avoid the hottest months if you struggle with high heat.
- Budget: the rainy season may bring better hotel deals.
- Festivals: book early if you want to attend them.
